I have a 9 foot long section of tubular steel that I am installing a linear rail onto for my x axis but it has about a 1/16 inch drop from being flat in the middle of the steel. I have read the articles on using moglice or a metal epoxy for potting the rail to make it level, but that can be rather expensive. I was also considering using "Devcon" brand metal epoxy but have not been able to find a distributor in southern Ontario.
I was also wondering about the possibility of using "auto body filler" to do the job. I realize that "filler" can crack if hit hard or to much pressure is applied, but it would be an easy, cheap way to level a slightly warped length of metal.
Is there another type of material that could be used also in place of moglice that is more easily obtained and not so costly.
What do you think about using body filler, perhaps some that has fiberglass in it.
or suggest a better method that has worked for you.
