    Solidcam 2010 turning.

    Hello all,

I need help to setup the clamp / chuck in Solidcam turning.

Going through the motions until I get the message that the tool will interfere with the clamp (chuck I presume).

How do I set up or see the clamp / chuck?

I am working my way through a Tutorial called Axis.

Normally I would expect to be able to set the length of the object I want to turn.
Say a chess pawn, that will have a specific height when turned out of aluminum stock.

Any ideas how to set the clamp for cylindrical stock?

    Regards

The "clamp" is the jaws and it need to be specified in setup of the CAM job, done as a geometry, same way as stock geometry. The easy way is to make a SolidWorks template with the chuck+jaws in one sketch and the stock material in another. You could easily edit dimensions and hide/show those sketches as you want. Then draw your part in a 3:rd sketch and make a solid or stay in 2D as you whish.
When you start a "New" part in SolidWorks, the SolidCAM turning template will show up and chuck/jaws + stock material is already there and just need some minor changes in diameter and/or length. If you set the jaw-sketch line collinear with the stock diameter, you've just to change in 1 place... etc.

Please also take a look at Sid, the SolidCAM professor at SolidCAM webpage. :-)

    Best regards

    Thanks Piobaire,
I figured this out by going back to SW Featuremanager (before defining the main spindle) and draw a single clamp at the long side of the stock.
Than back to SC and Main spindle > Define Chain.
    This works at the moment.

I read somewhere that there is a clamp in SW2010 that can be called up by clicking somewhere, cannot find this function.
I will have a look again at Sidney and see how he does this.

    Than you for this answer,
