Writing programs on a 5020L Control

    Hi all,
We just picked up a new(to us)1995 LNC8 Cadet. We don't have any communication cables hooked up to it yet, but I've been nosing around the control, and I don't see any way to write a new program on the control.
I can MDI 1 block at a time, but if I don't see any way to actually create a new program.

What am I missing on this thing? I can't imagine not being able to write programs at the control.

    Thanks for any input.

    Keith

Go into EDIT mode push the soft key "edit" F4 or something, enter a short name with no spaces, that starts with a letter (as apposed to a number) push write and you have a blank page to start writing.

    Hope that helps, Robert

Thanks littlerob. I've been perusing the manuals, and I didn't see that anywhere. Worked like a charm

Okuma's manuals are certainly the worst on the market....

don't forget to press "edit quit" when you quit editing

Yeah, I found that one out the hard way yesterday. Fortunately, it was just a little bs trial program.

I haven't programmed a lathe in 10 years now; so I'm trying to shake the rust.

    Just FYI ...

If you forget the edit quit, you have one chance to recover the file by trying to edit a new file and typing ;R after the file name.

This works too if you run out of memory and need to delete a file to make more room.

As far as the Okuma manuals being the worst...don't bet on it. I've seen some...yikes! The Okuma's look pretty good when compared to them!

    (yes Jinglish and all)

    good to know

the thing i don't catch about okuma, is that on the same controller on a mill (OSP5020M) you don't need to "edit quit", the ,min file is automatically saved when you quit editing.....

Now Steve... why why why would you want to TURN OFF the machine in the middle of editing the program? Of course you can not control the power if it fails externally... but to expect "Recover" to work would be a real stretch :nono:
