Sieg X1 brushless RC spindle motor

    Hi Guys,

    My first post here
I have a question, and I hope someone can supply the answer.
I would like to convert my little Sieg X1 spindle to a High speed spindle.
Ofcouse the bearings will be replaced.
I want to power an RC brushless motor with an ATX PSU from a PC to drive the spindle.
The ATX PSU will be modified as an lab power supply.

Is there someone that has done this allready on some kind of mill.
Some people have used a 24V PSU, I am specifically interested in using a 12V ATX PSU though.

Hope someone is able to supply me with some information.

    Thanks,
    Mbasecnc

I wouldn't have thought a PC PSU would have sufficient amps on the 12v line to provide meaningfull effort to your 12v motor? Eg 500w motor @24v = 21A but 42A @12v. This is where the battery supplies score - high amp drain for only minutes of duration?
