Hi all, just got EMC2 setup on Ubuntu, and most everything is working alright, except I can't tell if I've setup homing properly, and want to make sure I have the switches set up right.

Is there any way to see which inputs are active at any point in EMC2? You know, like how mach3 has that screen showing lights for all in/outs -- I'm wondering where to start looking to achieve that same goal in EMC2.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Not yet! For some reason, it struck me like "oscilloscope" and probably not offering what I was looking for. I'll check that out - I take it that it allows me to monitor the HAL status, and since HAL handles that communication, it will be able to show me what variables/pin states are changing?

I haven't even really experimented with it myself, but it looks like it may show you what you want... also, i don't have any inputs enabled yet from switches so i couldn't check even if wanted

use halmeter to look at pins named like
axis.N.home-sw-in (change N to axis letter)

or use halshow to watch the same (pus more)

Both are available under 'machine' heading when AXIS is loaded.

Another alternative (more work) would be to implement a pyvcp panel with LED widgets to show the state of the signals you're interested in monitoring.

the Hal meter and hal show were great helps. That did exactly what I needed (showed me that I had my switch pins mixed up! =) - and, in fact, hal show has that led display - you just click on which pins you want to monitor (SW or HW), and it has a red/green light for each.

Now, I just have to figure out why I'm always getting a home switch error on the Z axis. I thought the switch might've been touchy, so I installed a debounce filter on it, but it doesn't seem to do any good. In fact, the hal show monitor doesn't show it passing anything through the debounce filter (when the error occurs), but Axis still claims that "... switch inactive before end of move" or something like the same. As if the switch went high while it was halfway down the axis, and then went back to low. The show monitor indicates this didn't occur, but maybe it doesn't show brief fluctuations.

I'll try replacing the switch this weekend, unless anyone knows of something I might be missing, and especially why the Z would be different than X and Y.
