Why are my belts on my 240 msb (sub spindle) wearing so much.

Ran fine for 2 years until the sub spindle belts needed to be replaced.

Now they need to be replaced about every 6 months with a re-tighten once or twice in-between.

The sub is used for very light duty work on brass, largest drill is 7/16.

Are you using a cool blaster or such?
I had 1 customer using a cool blaster and some bad coolant that made the belts soft. Office included a 2 year warranty to sell the machine. I believe they lost money on that one.

I use a 3J dead length collet chuck and use the through spindle coolant all the time .

I noticed last time when the serviceman pulled the covers off that the inside was pretty greasy. I wonder if over a period of time that's what is making the belts stretch.

we use Hangstefers coolant at the moment.

Other than the Belt issue machine runs almost 24 hrs a day and weekends no problem.

This customer's sub spindle was wet inside due to the high pressure coolant fracturing to microscopic particles and getting inside the sub spindle housing. His coolant was attacking and softening the belts. Tightened them a couple of times, then replaced them. Tightened them again, then he sold the machine. In many cases the coolant evaporates leaving a residue that is gummy.

thanks,,,,sounds like the same situation,,,,I think we will get in and clean out every 3 or 4 months. I understand the new ones have no belts and are directly coupled.
