    ME ThreadPal - easy access to screw thread data

    I've just finished ME ThreadPal, a graphical screw thread calculator and database.

    Features include:

    · Detailed data for thirty-seven thread types
    · Fifteen-hundred built-in thread sizes
    · Calculations for custom diameters and pitches
    · Thread wire calculations - best, maximum, minimum, and whatever's in between
    · Pitch diameter measurements for multiple-start threads
    · Lead angle calculations
    · Plating and application guidelines
    · Intelligent tap drill chart
    · Data for cut and form taps
    · Graphical popups to illustrate thread terminology

    One mouse click selects the thread type, two more select the thread size.

    Typing is required only when you want to enter a custom major diameter/pitch combination, change the number of starts, or change the wire size.

    All calculations are based on data and formulas derived from national and international standards, military standards, and standard reference books. Everything has been carefully checked.

    Installer or zipped versions are available - you can run from a thumb drive with no problems.

    Another useful feature...

    It would be nice if you added a feature that estimated the fastener pullout strength.

    IE you put in the shear modulus of the material, the thread being used, and length of thread engaged, and it tells you how much weight the fastener supports.

    I've got a nice little excel calculator to do this, but I think others might also find this calculation useful.

    Thanks for the suggestion. I'll put it on the todo list for the next version. I've also been asked to allow for recalculation of all diameters based on a specified amount of plating buildup.

    Typing is required only when you need to enter the major diameter and pitch of a new thread, or edit an existing input. There's never any "starting from scratch" just to change one value.

    ThreadPal takes the mystery out of interpreting and calculating metric fits and tolerances. The next time you run into something like an "M27 x 1-5h6h", a couple of mouse clicks will give you detailed manufacturing information (see the screenshot).

    Enter the maximum and minimum coating buildup you expect and ThreadPal will calculate your pre-coat machining diameters. Plating tolerances can have a surprising impact on machining tolerances. You can also factor in modified post-coat dimensions for special cases.

    Many thanx for your prompt reply to my earlier question, i have now downloaded your trial version & have a slight query over tolerances of pitch diameter.
    M6x1 6G & M32x1.5 6H are the two sizes i have checked & both are out when compared to the 27th machinists handbook using the ASME standard. Could you check & comment on this please.

    I have the 27th edition of MH, large-print edition


    Page 1795, Table 10

    PD tolerance for M6 x 1 (grade 6) = .150
    PD tolerance for M32 x 1.5 (grade 6) = .200

    These values are correctly displayed in ThreadPal



    Pages 1798-1799, Table 12

    I don't see published PD min and max values for the threads you mentioned.

    If you take the MH values for M6 x 1-6H and add the allowance (.026) for the "G" tolerance position, the numbers will match ThreadPal's output.

    If you take the MH values for M30 x 1.5-6H and add two millimeters, the numbers will match ThreadPal's output for M32 x 1.5-6H.



    Have I missed some other data from MH? All of my calculations are based on formulas and tables found in ISO 965-1 (which are copied in ASME B1.13M-2005)
