    Model IC carbys

How simple is it to make the carbys found on the mini ic engines? i'm not out to make one for a long while yet, just curious to see how simple they are.

Wondering the same thing, I was going to cheat for starters and use a carby of a 4 stroke Whipper snipper. I am thinking EFI might be easier than carbies, for smaller motors, just don't know how to get injectors that small...

This has more to do with your skill level and the equipment available, than the carb itself. Some are more complex with throttle, idle ,peak and mixture settings. Basic carbs are not much more than a needle valve and a spray bar in the venturi tube, which may or may not have a venturi shape.

Start with a basic engine that has a throttle type of carb and follow the print. Whatever you may be comfortable with. Otherwise, find a carb you like and duplicate it. Then try it out on the engine the original carb came on.

what are the plans worth? do you get a casting kit or do you make the engine from bar stock?

If anybody needs them I have various plans which I downloaded from some Yahoo groups including, but not limited to:

    Sealion 30cc OHC
    Seal 15cc
    Amsbury V8 120cc
    Whippet 10cc(?)
    Wallaby
    Mastiff 24cc opposed 4
    Whittle V8 10.6cc glow ignition
    Alpha model diesel engine
Some random glow ignition 2 stroke
    and more

This is related though as each engine has a carburetor design

I would definately like a copy of those plans, some (most) are probably a little out of my league but I would still be interested in a look. You can PM me if you want to work out the details...or if Rhino doesn't mind link or post them here.

    Cheers.

Ha, the V8 is the one I would have looked at first as well, definately too hard for me at the moment, but never hurts to look

Hey Jones, thanks for posting those plans

Looking at the Whippet there seems to be pages missing, ironically it is the most likely to be built by me at least being single cylinder, though a V8 really would be nice, though I guess not for a first attempt, second maybe

    Cheers.

Here is the set of plans for ETW's Kinlet, a four-stroke side valve single sparkie, on Model Engine News. They include carburetor as well as the entire construction series reproduced from Model Engineer.

    Enjoy!

Interesting engine, I like how it uses side valves, seems to make sense for a small IC engine.

    Cheers.
