    Vibration turning between centers

    Im having a hard time turning the OD of a 35" length stainless steel bar 2.5" in diameter. Ive adjusted the speeds from 300-1200 as well as slow feeds and fast feeds. Ive found that a slow speed of 400 and a fast feed help as well as a smaller nose radius insert with a positive rake. Any other tips would be great. Thanks

    Any chances of using a steady or following rest?
    Seems like you have all the tricks tested which come in to my mind.

    Have you tried the on-edge high positive inserts like Hertel? J&L used to have them in their catalog, Kennametal owns Hertel. You might have to look in the Kennametal turning tool catalog or call them.

    Im using a high positive stainless insert. If i use the steady rest will it push the work off centre because i still have to turn the piece around and machine the other side?
