    Your RPM is too slow.
Tormach 770 motors are only 1 HP, and the ideal torque is at about 1600 RPM.
I would definately bump your RPM up to at least 1400, and feed at 2.8 IPM, peck about .070 deep.
Tormachs are notorious for stalling, due to the weak spindle motors.
You have to baby the feeds and speeds.

    Guys,
Thanks to you all for the responses and I will do some more testing tomorrow using the ideas suggested.

I do have a couple of follow up questions before I jump into another round of testing:

    1. Is the idea of drilling the 1/2" x 2" hole in the PCNC770 in the high belt position completely unreasonable?
    2. If the motor's ideal torque is about 1600 RPM, how does that convert to spindle speed? Is it 1600 x pulley ratio?
    3. It sounds like the "peck cycle" might be a parameter to play with. Is there a rule of thumb (or short explanation) for adjust the pecking depth and / or dwell time based on other speeds / feeds?
    4. If I wanted to play with a pilot hole, is there a rule of thumb for the size of the pilot based on the final drill size?
