Does anyone have this control box on their Chinese 6040 Router? I have some questions.
To get an answer from cnczone members
it may help to know what your questions are
a photo of the inside of your box will help to identify what you have and tailor
the answer
there has been threads on setting up various versions of the spindle VFD
depending on the builder
what looks like identical control boxes can have different electronics inside
they can have different breakout boards or motion controllers
some are easier to add your own limit switches / home switches
other boards don't have all components fitted
various stepper drivers are also used

PS
part of a wiring for a version of a 6040 cnc control box
Attachment 397246
being Chinese
the spindle motor wiring needs looking at
they have used a chassis mounting plug on the box as the VFD output !!!
on machines they have used a 4 core cable to connect the spindle motor
they have a habit of not connecting the 4th pin inside of the spindle motors plug
to the motors body
so you have no earth connection between the VFD and spindle motor body
Thank you. I did not realise they varied. I don't know much about electronics so please keep it simple :-).
Here are some pics.
Questions:
First, at the moment I am using the turn knob on the box to control the spindle and I would like to do better than that. I would at least like to get the run and stop buttons working on the front of the box and maybe control the spindle via Mach3?
Second, I would love a touch plate for setting the z axis?
Third, I got the spindle stuck in one spot when a part moved while the job was running and hit the stop button. What do these jambs do to my stepper motors? Everything seems fine though.

from my collection of notes for the 6040 control boxes
this is the wiring for the spindle control
Attachment 397314
I suspect they use what ever cable is cheapest at the time
so the colour coding of the wiring may not be consistent
if my diagram is 100% correct the spindle earth is a green wire and not green/yellow as expected
with the manual / PC switch in the PC control position
your control software (mach3 ?) needs to control the relay via pin 17 to switch the spindle on & off
and send a PWM signal to pin 1 to control the speed
other cnczone members must have written or found the mach3 script to use a touch probe with this box
I have not seen a mach3 script to use a touch probe with your control box
but expect some found on the net can be used provided your touch probe is connected the same input as defined in the script
(some thing I have to look at some time)
unlike other motors
stalling a stepper motor does no harm
as the motor current is controlled by the stepper motor driver and does not increase with mechanical load
in another thread
some one posted a picture of an earth wire added inside a spindle motor
Attachment 397316
If you find the internal earth connection is missing from your spindle
and don't want to open the motor
I guess you could use an existing screw to fasten an earth wire to the exterior
of the spindle motor
John
Would you be able to take some screen shots of the spindle setup in Mach3 please John?
just before I went on holiday I packed away the PC I use to run Mach3
so it may be a couple of days before I can set it up as if I had your control box and take screen grabs
for now
from a 6040 manual I down loaded I have saved a few pages to get you going
page8 note to setup VFD
Attachment 397350
to setup mach3
lower half of page11 motor outputs - set up pin 1 to control spindle speed
Attachment 397352
page 12
Attachment 397354
lover half of page 15 set pin 17 to control BOB relay to switch spindle on & off

Thanks John. No need for the Mach3 screen shots. This should do the job - thank you.
