    Question stepper motor control :(

    okay
    i need some help
    I've searched, tried, ughhh.....
i do have two cnc routers tho... but that's something different

'Ive got couple of steppers laying around..... about 1-2 yrs old....

i am building a turn table of some kind for a friend of mine ....
so i came up with an idea to use a stepper motor to turn that base or what not,,.....
by using stepper i know i can get slow or fast speed of the motor...... now the question i have is.........
(I've got power supply, and that Chinese driver 3660 or something... that i can use )

how the hell do i control the speed of the motor??? as PC cant be used in this situation.....

ohh and prefer not to order anything lol

    Re: stepper motor control :(

in addition to the stepper motor , stepper driver & power supply
you need a pulse generator to provide the step pulses to make the motor turn
the higher the frequency of the pulses the faster the motor will turn

most stepper motors require 200 steps to make 1 revolution
if you set the driver to 8 micro steps it will take 1600 pulses to turn 1 revolution

you may find a simple circuit based on the NE555 timer IC will do

you may find kits or ready make boards in local electronic stores or online if you don't want to make your own

    Attachment 337232

but it will take way toooooo long to deliver

looking for something that will turn forward and reverse .....

    Re: stepper motor control :(

the two PWM motor speed controllers from Newegg can only be used to control DC motors

this from Newegg is close to what I had in mind -

the web site is a bit short of detail ,
a common problem with items from China

you need to know what is the frequency range of the modules output to workout the possible speed range

    Re: stepper motor control :(

There is a kit available that includes speed, direction, and start, stop, single step control.
4Axis5_pulse: Pulse generator parts ONLY massmind

Note that the parts are designed to install into the PCB, so unless you want to whiteboard it, you probably also want the suggested options:
    416012 PCB:
    416025 +5 volt power regulator:
416020 Cable to Connect to 1 driver:

Still, it's very capable and well documented and a good educational project.
