Would anyone share their recommendations for radial vdi 40 live tooling. This is for a 2007 Okuma Captain L370 BBMW.

A couple more
Okuma do handle live tooling
Eppinger
Sauter
I tend to like the Exsys (Eppinger) for milling because they use tapered roller bearings rather than ball bearings, so they take the side loads better. They also come with a 2 year warranty. 1-800-EXSYS4U.
WTO and Von Ruden also make some pretty decent toolholders that will fit your machine.
Best regards,
Experience is what you get just after you needed it.
you can replace bearings, even exchange with other types
open them, see how they work
there are lot more merchants than producers, so consider contacting a producer, and buy only the big box and rest of parts, do them yourself
I've opened Alps (Okuma std.),Sumatic, WTO, Sandvik, Command, Sauter, Von Runden, EWS, and Exsys and Rebuilt most of them at some point.
Now you know why I'm suggesting Exsys. Viton seals, Tapered roller bearings, better warranty than most, good rebuild service, tools are pre-run in so they arrive ready to go.
Not saying some of the others don't do some of the same, but in my experience, they will last longer and be more rigid.

i had no problem with mines ... a polar bear makes them .... about tools pre-run, hmmm ... if quality-control is done at every step, than you can avoid pre-run
even more, you can avoid final optical machine measurements, by using certain conditions when crafting them
actually, i had problems with live-straight-holder, but i guess is understandable : i was doing parts with >300 holes, and after 2-3 shifts, inside seals got wasted ... well, only one holder worked all the time ) ... at that moment i started to repair them ... understand them ... got attached
