    Multus pocket milling on taper

    OSP 200 Multus B400

    Work piece:
    Taper D145 / D164, lenght 108
    (taper angle 10 degrees)

How to program pocket to taper with dimension 90x90 with R15 in each corner.Depth 5mm, tool diam. 12mm
Pocket is NOT in XY plane, it have to follow workpiece radius( i think wrapped could be correct word).
I dont need whole pocket program, just ouside contour is ok.
Anyone ? I have tried to solve this but no luck.

Your description is a little vague.
Slope machining is what you may need.
If you want to use the Y axis, the sides will be parallel depth wise, but the depth will vary, with the deepest part on the centreline, see this example....

    http://www.cnczone.com/forums/okuma/...gled_face.html

Using the C axis will produce something quite different, but will you be able to produce a 90x90 pocket.

The part drawing would be a great help.

    Thanks for answer.
Here's picture. Problems are radius in corners, i always get some error.

Have you selected the correct plane for doing the rads G17/G18/G19?

Post your program to help us help you

You would probably need Slope Machining and Helical Milling for that and some 3D conversational software like Mastercam. Both Helical Milling and Slope Machining are options. G17/18/19 is only for milling an arc with 2 axes. If you need to mill an arc with 3 axes you need Helical Milling.

I would try combine coordinate conversion and arc on ZX (or XY) plane.
Coordinate system conversion to simulate (slanted) plane on slope.

    Thanks for replies.
We do have all option in machine, but problem is that arc is in three axes like fordav says.

This is getting interesting. We have still not able to program this manually.
We are using Gibbs Cam sofware, but it also does not work on this case. They are repairing software in Gibbs....

This piece is not complicated in picture. I still cant understand how this could be so complicated to program without cam(well with cam same thing).

I'll try to put program if i manage to solve this. All help is still appreciate.
I wonder if P300 could do this easily ?

try a coordinate conversion (slanted machining plane) function

You will need to use a CAM system for that part

    Solved.
Like Budgie said there is no other way to program this but CAM.
We finally manage to do this by Gibbscam.
    Thanks for answers

A pic and a part program snipped would be nice to see, and maybe help others. :-)
