    Question toolcrib and dovetail cutters

    Hello all,
I"m having an issue I hope someone can help me with,
    a) I need to mill a dovetail,
    b) I made up a dovetail cutter and saved it to my "milling tool library",
    c) I have the dovetail cutter in the tool crib,
    d) A slot is milled for the dovetail,
    e) I chose "profiling" to tool path the dovetail, when I try to choose the tool the only options given are for "end mill rough", and "end mill finish",
    f) My question is how do I get access to the dove mill cutter page in my tool crib. I don't want to make a dovetail cutter and place it in my end mill list, I would really like to use the " dove mill" page and not clutter the end mill pages with non end mills.
Am I choosing the wrong option to mill the dovetail?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    thanks

I think you are stuck making a fake end-mill or waiting for an update to BCC.

At one point somebody said one of the higher-level versions supported different tools, but that would be insane.

This is one of the #1 complaints with V25 -- you can declare all sorts of tools but not actually use them.

The shape tools are available in the "multiaxis" toolpaths. The new moduleworks toolpaths can do the proper collision/crash avoidance etc. for shaped tools, that the older toolpaths couldnt do.

OK, that just seems bizzare, having a crapload of tools that can't be used except in the high-end multi-axis toolpaths. I sure hope BCC is on-track to release an update for the rest of us to free them up.

Seems really odd that I can't define and use a T-slot cutter for a simple 2D profile cut, yet I can jump through a bunch of hoops and define a very short, fat end mill with exactly the same dimensions that does simulate correctly.

I'm curious as to why it doesn't have a fillet or "roundover" tool in the library. Forrest

Thanks for your answer, there it is.

But all I want to do is mill the dove tail .175 deep, on a six inch square, ie. X0 Y0, x6.0 y0, x6.0 y6.0, x0 y6.0, x0y0. at z-.175. I need to go into 3-axis milling for that? All I need is to access the dove mill tools to dove tail a 6 inch square. It is looking like that is not possible. Thank you all for your replies, they are appreciated

What you need to do is add all the specifications of the tool you are going to use in the tool library and save the tool. That is creating a tool or "configure" Check this thread out,has some links in there that will be of help.

No, it is one small part of a more complex part, it would have been pointless to explain the rest of the part as this is where my issue is. :bs:

Sirs: looks like BobCad has taken us as hostages. They said me, to use this feature (dovetails, T-cutter etc) you have to buy not only 3 axis Pro like me, but 4 axis. As I understand , to make dovetails and T-cutters work in their 3axis program you have to buy 4 axis program. Is this commercial disloyalty or a mistake ? You take the pic.. If you want to buy the 4 axis ,you have to expend something like 6,000.-. If not, you have to make your own compensations and lie to the program ,which , in my humble opinion is a good cad/cam system..... to use only with cilindrical tools !!!!

Do you know how to get rid of the invalid corner radius error? I have assigned the tool and have called it but get an error on compute. It might just be the solid as I'm trying to cut just half of the dovetail like a linear rail.
