    Is this wiring plan right?

I am about to start wiring the components in my enclosure together and just wanted to run something by those in the know.

Inside the enclosure I will have a Gecko G540, SPID, two power supplies and an assortment of fans.

So here is my plan. I will connect the ground from the AC to the chassis. I will connect all the DC power supply negatives together and then connect them to the chassis. All this interconnecting just kind of bothers me.

So is this right or am I going to fry something?

    Thanks for your time.

There's no need to connect the common (negative) rail of the power supplies to the chassis. It won;t fry anything but it's not required.

For a good wiring layout, refer to the attached from Homann Engineering

You should keep your AC ground to the chassis separate from you DC grounds. I personally would not tie any of the DC negatives together unless you are using a multi-voltage power supply. .

One power supply is for the Gecko ;48v, and the other is a dual voltage power supply; 5v/12v, which will power fans and the SPID.

So it's OK to connect the negatives from these two power supplies together?

    Thanks for the help.

The PC +5vDC supply common is already at the same potential as AC common by virtue of the grounded neutral, (both grounded to the same point by default).
I connect all commons to grounds as a matter of practice.
If you want to test to make sure before grounding any supply, measure the voltage from the relative common to earth ground, you may see stray voltage with a sensitive VOM, so use ~ 1k resistor from common to ground and check the voltage again, if it has collapsed appreciably then it is considered safe to common up.

    Thanks for the info Al.

I'm not using a pc power supply. I got a small one from Jameco.

But you are using a PC surely? with the 5v control from the parallel port (or USB) comes with grounded common.!!

Yes I am using a pc that will connect to the Gecko g540 through a parallel port.

I was just pointing out that unless you are using a Laptop PC, the PC power supply for MB and P.P. has the common connected to earth ground already internally.
This common will also be connected to one side of your AC supply common (or neutral) through the grounded neutral.
