Looking to sell the TL-1 and buy a ST-10(need advice)

    Hello guys,

Looking to sell my TL-1 and move up to a turning center. My main concern is I have a job that has an aluminum part that is 6" diameter and about 6.5" long. I turn the majority of the O.D. down to 4". Will the small ST10 handle this? Hope everyone's business/life is doing well!

I think the ST10 will handle the part size mentioned just fine.

Thanks! I wasn't sure what the smaller chuck could handle.

I looked at the website before. I just wanted to see real world information. It may cut 14" but you may not want to try it type stuff.

    chance

I know you probably like the control, but if you are doing any sort of production, this would be a chance to look at some good quality lathes.

6x6 is no problem. There is a video demo here: Haas Releases the ST-10Y: Small-Footprint Y-Axis Turning Center | Haas

I use almost 6 inch material in this demo. Are there any other considerations?

Since the video was made, I have tested the ST line extensively. At 150% spindle load you can achieve about 54 cubic inches of material removal using standard tooling on the ST-10. (2200 SFM, .085 DOC, .024 Feed at 3.0" Diameter)
    Thanks,

Ken, was that a widget or an actual part for something? Nice demo!
