Here's a couple pics I found showing the gibs setup.
I'll have to take measurements later today for ya.
Don't know if my gib strips have the same notches as yours but this is how they came.

Perfect Hoss - no need for measurements.
My gibs are definately sitting much, much deeper in the counterbore pocket.
Thanks.

Alrighty, good luck, let me know if you need anything else.

The 3-jaw chuck adapter for the vertical lathe is finished.
I changed it so I had to remove less material for the studs and nuts. Looks better too.
Now I can get to having some more lathe fun and get my TTS tools modded for the ATC.

Hi Hoss, another question for you, how do you set up mach 3 i'm guessing to be able to turn parts like that?
AM
I use Mach 3 Turn and it sets up pretty much the same as the mill in this configuration.
X is X and Z is Z.
I'll try and show the config in the next video, it's real easy.

Forgot I need to crank one of these Vise Grips out today first that lucky13 posted this link to a while back, thanks for that.

I can lift the vise with one hand but getting a good hold on it is a pita, won't be now.
Time to get some work done, later.

Picked up a new 3/4 indexable endmill that would be better than the one I just used on the D2 steel.
Mainly because this one will use the same inserts as some of my other Kennametal tools
instead of ordering oddball inserts for just that one tool.

Okay man I really did not want to have to do this, but, despite my best efforts to avoid it, you leave me no choice........I have no choice but to REMOVE you from my Christmas card list!! That is of course unless you are really nice and say PRETTY PLEASE!! haha :stickpoke
What a great idea that vice grip is Hoss!
I struggle to move my one around easily so a couple of those is on the cards!
cheers,
Ian

Here's my print for a grip to fit my 5 inch vise.
I'll just pop in a couple socket screws whose heads fit nicely in the vises jaws screw heads.
Could use .225 pins like the original too in the same location.

Wow, how do I overlook these simple solutions that make life easier? I'm glad you posted that Hoss & Lucky !!
Richard
Yeah, I gotta make something similar the jaws of my 4th can grab to give it a simple handle too.
A piece of round with a little flange on the bottom to be below the closed jaws and a handle on top should do.

These handles also actually extend nicely to a thought I have been considering for my workshop as it is slowly constructed, which is to have a set of (heavy duty) shelves alongside the machine, with the rotary table, vices, etc on, and a mini-crane made of a simple parallel arm assembly for lifting and maneuvering these heavy items around. These handles would be the ideal pickup mechanism for that as each process would simply be - lift, swing, drop.
(For those that aren't clear on the parallel arms, google "tapping arms" and think hook instead of pneumatic chuck)
Something like that would no doubt be of benefit to many I would imagine?
cheers,
Ian

Yeah Ian that's a real good idea.
I actually got the lucky link from Connors thread where he's doing something kinda like that.

Right now I just keep stuff on the floor under the table.
Gotta stop buying stuff or things are going to start piling up in the kitchen.
Gotta put your idea on the list, then figure out how to CNC it.

Hoss,
If I remember correctly, a while back you mentioned a 30 taper spindle and pull stud type drawbar... if im wrong then what are your thoughts on a mod like this...I did contact a spindle grinding service and was quoted $275 to get the stock R8 spindle reground to CAT30...The only thing im wondering about is how to fit a pull stud type drawbar inside such a small spindle...

whoa, my mill shipped today. They emailed yesterday saying they were expecting a shipment on the 25th. I get an email tonight saying it shipped. It's through fedex.
Does anyone here have any experience receiving the mill through fedex? I ordered the liftgate service, on the tracking info, it says to call to schedule an appointment and any special needs such as liftgate.
It has an expected delivery date on the 17th. Looks like Santa did come early.
There's enough room in there. I was 75% the way into making a pull stud gripper like the pros use like this before I got side tracked. That's the reason my power drawbar has lots more travel than is needed for TTS.
It may get revisited one day but there are more pressing things on the fire.
I planned on using the mill itself under cnc control to grind it's own spindle.
There's not much to take off and plenty left for an outside shop to fix if it went south.

There you go, hohoho.
My experience with ups and another carrier was that they called me to schedule a delivery time and I requested a lift gate at that time. Had to send them back the first time cause one showed up with just a box trailer.
Next time I'll just stick to meeting the trailer downtown and sliding the crate into my pickup again.
