    Mold issue in SW2010

    Hello All,

I am trying to get this project finished and have ran into an issue. I am trying to remove the area of a mold that is above a channel cut into the mold base. This is used to shape a tube and when I used the tube as a cavity, it left behind the part of the mold due to the tube curving further into the mold base (seen in the attached pic). This will be machined and so I need to have the material removed before it will generate a toolpath. I have not found a way to do it properly. I would appreciate any help that anyone can provide.

Let me know if you need any further information.

Can you post the model? Try cutting the block from the side along the center of the tube.

    SolidWorks 2010 File

    Hi Mike,

Here is the file. It is a SW2010 file. I cannot figure out how to remove the "roof" (for a lack of a better term) of the cavity. Since this will be milled, I cannot generate a toolpath that will go to the end of the cavity until I remove the "roof". Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

On the Face Plane, sketch outline, then 'cut-extrude - up to next'.

    Tired that: didn't work

    Hi Kiwi,

I tried that and it cut through the complete part, not stopping at the cavity like I need it to.

    Any other ideas?

What about a cut loft the shape of the tool, along a 3d spline which follows the tube.

Here is what I did. On the side surface I put a shetch at the center of the tube, Then cut across. I would have posted the Solidworks file but I'm using 2013 and it is not backwards compatable to 2010. Here is a jpeg showing the sketch and a parasolids file. If your cavity block was on both sides of the tube you could do a configuration and get both halves of the mold. BTW the othe side will have a undercut at the end of the tube.
