    Arrow LazyCam Forum

How many of you use LazyCam?

I tried it for the first time the day Art released it - that was quite some time ago. I fumbled with it and have been watching it evolve.

It appears to be evolving quite well and has become pretty stable with decent capabilities.

    Anyone else using it?

I bought it last week.....but I intended to buy the macros from NewFangled Solutions and bought LazyCam by accident (I was having a long day!)..... haven't ever looked at it but I guess I'll have to now since I own a license! Is it any good or was it a total waste of money? ....I still haven't bought the NewFangledSolutions macros

I downloaded the new version 2, but haven't installed it yet. Version 1 never worked very well for me.

I just bought the license last weekend and will be getting more into it over the next couple of weeks. Went through the tutorials on the website and it looks nice. So I went ahead and bought it.

    Wink LazyCam

I just purchased a Sherline CNC mill and lathe, driven by Mach3. The LazyCam software goes with it. I tried to load a 3D file in .dfx format and the program had trouble opening the file. Since I've been working to set up my system, I haven't had time yet to diagnose the problem. But I'll sure keep checking in with this forum because I like the fact that Art is behind LazyCam.

    I didn't think Mach3 could open 3D files? I thought only 2 & 2.5D not 3D.

Correct. LazyCAM only works with 2D .dxf's

If you need to do 3D. look at www.meshcam.com or http://www.vectric.com/WebSite/Vectr.../c3d_index.htm

    Thanks

Thanks, guys. This is why I love this forum. Will Mach3 interface with both of the examples you mentioned? Or, do I need to worry?

So, since I own LazyCam by accident . and still haven't looked at it, is there anything that it can do to benefit me, which V-Carve Pro or the Machs Newfangled Solutions Add-Ons can't do (I own them too)? If not, then I wasted $50!

I'm using Lazycam for a few years now mostly for routing applications, modell airplane building.
    I think it's a 2 d program, never tried 3d.
The problems I have with it is that it doesn't take splines (coming from Autocad)so have some extra work to redo certain things in polylines.
I'm not sure dxf format is consistent enough for programmers to provide it all and because it's a standalone application that might be a problem.
Compared with the price you have to pay for a "proper" 3d gcode generator I think it's ok. I've seen it has now 3d foam option, but haven't tried it by now.

If you save as v12 .dxf the splines will automatically be converted to polylines in the .dxf file. There are also some freely available spline to polyline lisp conversion utilities you can download.

    Hey guys
I just bought licenses for Mach3 and LazyCAM. I've been playing around with LazyCAM and can see where it has some power but its been a struggle to figure it out.

I can cut 2D out just fine but if you want to cut out a box for example where you have to cut a pocket out then profile the outside I'm having some issues still. Tutorials seam to be few and far between...

Anyway, just making my mark on the LazyCAM forum
