    New hobby CNC Router project

    Hello everyone!

Since the fundamental of the whole project are obtained, I believe it is time to start building the machine.

This is a great place since newbies like me can benefit from the experience of people around here, with big or small background in the world of CNC.

There are 2 elements that are really(!) making things difficult, which are limited budget and limited space (almost none). To counterbalance the first, the building cost was pulled to almost the lowest level with doubtful result. The second element was compensated by making the machine "foldable".

Some of the necessary equipment is already in stock

I have attached some pics showing the concept...

I believe the building of it will start in the couple of days.

Here are some pics showing the rail system and the gantry concept...

The basic material is plywood. The gantry will be detachable is order to lower the height when off so the machine can be stored under my bed.
The overall dimensions will be 70cm(L)*50cm(W)*50cm(H) and when detached 100cm(L)*50cm(W)*15cm(H) approximately.

The orange joints are metal plates "sandwiching" the gantry to the base retained by 4 screws to make it solid.

The router to be used is a pre-owned wood-working Einhel BT-RO 1200 (watts and rpm range from 11.000 to 30.000) which, due to its shape, will be screwed on the machine via its base.

The router mount is designed so that the router's vacuum system can be used as well.

After the machine is built, the first upgrade will be a Super-PID.

The construction has started, although I'm during exams and my time is VERY limited.

The first step accomplished is the table. If I continue like this, it will take forever!

Anyway, I thought of a different router mount. The previous one is not quite stable and the metal base of the router makes less clearance. So I'm working on a mount which will hold the router by its handles. Plus, I'm trying to take off the router's metal base.

Nice build. Your folding table concept is great, and should take off well for some wanting to ship their machines.
