    Which Gecko should I use?

I am building a small cnc mill and would like opinions on which Gecko drive I should choose. I attempted to build my own controllers and at this point have given up on that idea. The wife is going to kill me if I make any more useless purchases on my project so I kinda want to get this one right.(nuts)

I already have the stepper motors that I intend to use. They are Keling Tech KL34H2120-06-4A, 1200 oz/in, 6A, 6mH, nema 34. Using the formula I found on the Gecko website it suggests that I use a power supply with about 78V. The motor is listed as 6A, does that mean it is 6A per phase? (I'm kinda new to this whole thing)

I am thinking of going with 203V's and running between 50-70V. Like I stated above the maching is kinda small so I will not need killer rapids. I am not sure if the 203V is the best choice. I am hoping some of you Gecko guru's can correct me if I am about to make a mistake with to 203V's.

I doubt it will make a difference but I will be using my Mach3 to run the setup.

    Ostni,

When you say small CNC what do you mean?

How much does each axis weigh and how fast do you want to move them?

1200 ounce steppers are not exactly small.

    Please provide more details.

Hi Ostni. Welcome to the Zone!

You can't go wrong with the 203V--Especially since it is on sale at Gecko for only $123.

    Jalessi,

By small I mean it will be 2'x2'x6" gantry type. The X-axis will weigh about 25lbs (most of that weight being the Y & Z motors). The Y-axis will be about 16lbs and the Z-axis will be about 8lbs. I picked up the large motors for future expansion. I figured it would be better to have a higher powered small mill now, than to upgrade in the future and have an underpowered larger mill.
