Adding 4th axis to DIY CNC

I have built a 3 axis CNC mill with all THK rails, 3" 80/20 aluminum extrusions, a Gecko G540, 1.5kw Chinese spindle and huanyang VFD.

The G540 can drive 4 axis.

My gut says to buy this one, but, it seems like such a simple piece of equipment (One stepper motor, a gearbox, a chuck, and a housing) that maybe I can assemble from parts and machine the housing myself or have it machined.

Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? Is $410 plus $70 shipping a reasonable price? Seems high to me... Set me straight CNCZone

Hi I am having trouble setting up a 4th Axis in Mach3Mill. Hardware is all hooked up ok. I enabled A Axis in Ports and Pins. Now when I go to Motor Tuning the A AXis isn't enabled and I can't set up steps, speed etc. Am I missing something elsewhere in Mach3 to enable this Axis. Any help would be gratefully received.
    Thanks in advance. Routerboy44
