What is the cause of this stepping?

I tried to re surface my sacrificial board because my machine does not seem totally square.

I noticed there is stepping at one end of x axis but not the other.

What does this mean and how do i fix it?

Any help is appreciated I am pretty new to this.

Are you sure it is not binding?

    Pictures??

Stepping is most likey caused by a misalignment of either the spindle or one of the axis in relation to the other.

I would say your X is not straight, one minute you’re going uphill the next going down,
When the spindle is out of “tram” then on one side of the hill you will see steps on the one side and then on the other side of the hill, steps on the opposite side,
once your finished surfacing the board, the board and your X will be parallel to each other, but still not straight, a bulge in one of your ways ? or a ripple all the way down ?

    (Definition of Tramming)

The spindle is adjusted so to be perpendicular to the table.
