    Gearbox Oil

I have a 2011 Haas VF-2 that apparently developed a small gear oil leak at some point and just tripped the low gear oil pressure alarm. I have DTE 25 on hand and saw that some of the older machines called for it in their gearboxes with some searching. The manual is calling for SHC 625 and was just curious if I could substitute the DTE 25 to get back up and running. I saw they both had the same viscosity rating, but I've been getting mixed responses from the Haas techs. I need to get up and running yesterday which is why I'm asking! Thanks in advance!

It is your machine. Do what you want with it. If you use oil not recommended, you run the risk of voiding warranty claims for repairs and parts.

And I fully understand that. It just appears to me that the SHC 625 is, more or less, just a synthetic version of the DTE with some slight changes, and getting up and running quickly is of utmost importance. I'm sure someone has experience with it.

Since the machine is under warranty, I would seriously consider getting a tech from your local HFO in there ASAP. It is extremely rare that for the gear-box to leak, and there is a known issue with a fitting in that generation of machine that causes the oil to exit the closed loop system when recirculating.

Seems he can't afford to wait for a tech or to get the correct oil. He needs to run now. But he can afford to pay for repairs at a later date 100% out of pocket.

I wouldn't add the dte 25 to the sch 625 to it but i would run the dte 25 if all the shc 625 was drained.
