    CNC Mill 3-axis first test

Yipee, despite z-axis not being connected to a servo yet I plunged a 4mm end mill into the wood at 20,000rpm and fed it round in a circle at 500mm/min. Cut perfect circle and almost set wood on fire! First lesson learnt - dont cut wood with milling bits! Just to fit z-axis servo bracket, fit router bit and do some testing.

You can cut wood with milling bits, but you need to feed a lot faster than that. 500mm/min is about 20ipm; you want to go about 200 ipm. If you go too slow, the bit's rubbing more than it's cutting.
