    X-axis limits

Tormach lists the maximum x-axis travel for the PCNC770 as 14 inches. On my mill even with the limit stops set to their most restrictive positions the travel is about 14.5 inches. Is this normal? Is there a recommended procedure to set the stops correctly? I can't find anything in the manual...

    Re: X-axis limits

You want to modify your machine for LESS travel?? Why?? If it's working ok as it is, why would you want to REDUCE capability for no gain?

    Re: X-axis limits

Good point! Most of my projects involve pieces that are only a few inches wide so I had never noticed the larger work envelope. Looking at things it appears that the available travel (with appropriate adjustment of the limit switch stops) is close to 15 inches. I was curious if this is normal and if there are any special precautions that I should take when adjusting the limit switches..

My 1100 gets 0.9" extra in X and I adjusted to Y stops to get 1.25" extra. I think they list the size as the "target" but to ensure its met they designed with a little extra.

I get more out of z as well. Some not so usable as it will run the spindle past the table if you let it go that low.

My 770 gets a little more than 14.5 on the x-axis, my y-axis is about 0.3 long (never measured the z). I think Brian is correct, they are probably built with a little excess in order to ensure the maximum envelope.

    Yes, that's 'Normal'.
The 14" X Travel listed by TORMACH is approximate.
My 770 gets 14.440" before tripping the limit switch.
If I do my setups VERY CAREFULLY, I can machine parts 14" long in X.
    ...
But, WHY would you want to unnecessarily tinker with your limit switches?
