Grid shift is a parameter that moves the axis, a determined amount to a home loaction.
Jumping grid happens when the machine jumps to the next pulse from the feedback system, one past the desired one. In simple terms.

In general terms it refers to the ability to move an axis home position by parameter.
e.g. In a typical system, an axis will move in rapid to a home limit switch, it then goes into creep speed and looks for the encoder 1/rev marker pulse, it then records this as home position.
In this case, the home position can be anything up to one rev of the encoder variation.
So for example, in the case of a Z axis that has to position for tool change operation, it may be out, in this case the grid shift parameter can be changed equivalent to the amount of encoder counts required to correct the marker pulse home position.
The parameter value is added or subtracted to the motor movement after the home pulse.
Jumping the grid, could mean moving the home L.S. so that the home position will now be in another revolution of the encoder.

Lines move is a parameter that goes the axis, an identified quantity to a home location.
A jumping grid happens when the device leaps to the next rhythm from the review program, one previous the preferred one. Simply.
