The 'evil' dudes in the episode were making "A. R.'s". Really, they all called them "Aeee<pause>Arrrs".

There was a Tormach/PP (or maybe Mach, I forgot) screen shown briefly along the way in the background.

These were obviously weak-sauce evildoers because they didn't even drill the 3rd hole that would make them into M16's and much more valuable on the black market.

Or maybe the screenwriters, as usual, have absolutely no clue about guns except they're scary and have no desire to learn anything more.
