    Need Electro-Craft Servo Specs

I have literally spent days trying to find the specs on the servos I have in Hurco KMBX1 mill. This is the information I have on them:

    Model: E703

Part No: 0703-02-083? (not 100% on the first and last character. The could both be either a 0, 3, 8, B ?)

    Customer P.N.: 401 4003 003
    Serial No.: H 00644

I am doing a retrofit on Hurco and trying to decide if I need to replace these servos. They don't look stock to me, but I could be wrong.

I am going to be using Gecko G320X drives.

    Appreciate the help in advance!

The standard cat# show 0675/0690 series and 0721/0723, so in all probability this is a OEM version somewhere close to these models, ElectroCraft made a few custom such as this.
Electrically it will be very close to the 0721 I suspect.
The No's on the end are usually options.
You can obtain some information as to the size of the present drives and power supply voltage/size etc.
With modern systems you do not need the Tach.
If an encoder is fitted, they were usually Renco 1000p/rev.

Thanks for the fast reply! I will see what I can dig up on those alternate numbers.

What would your thoughts be on using these servos for a Mach3/Gecko retrofit (assuming they are close to the 721 specs)? We had planned on purchasing encoders for sure, but would like to put the extra budgeted money towards an indexer versus servos.

If they are in good condition, why not? Do they presently have encoder on them?
I can supply the 0721 if you want it.
What do define as an indexer exactly?

And naturally as soon as I post a thread I find the document I was looking for. In case somebody else is needing it I found it in this thread: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/hurco/...ml#post1043801

I will also attach it here. I would still be curious on other's thoughts on using these servos for my retrofit.

I am not sure why you have reservations to using them?, They are already mechanically fitted to the machine, if they do not have encoders, then you would have to source them.
What is the source of feedback now?
Also going servo over stepper is a big plus.

I guess more than anything, the age of the servos had me a little worried (for no justified reason). There are encoders right now, but it looks like two of them don't match and one got busted (will get model numbers tonight). So I will be replacing those for sure.

Would you have a recommendation for good encoders?

    Don't match how exactly?
US digital are among the cheapest, then Koyo and the originals, Renco, if through hole type.

    Ah.. I misunderstood the reason!.

Two are different brands and one doesn't look like it fits correctly. The previous owner had said that he had tried to put some used encoders on that he had laying around.

I will check out those encoders. I'm not necessarily looking for the cheapest. At the moment I have about an $8,000 budget for this retrofit, and as of right now I am coming in well below that.

    Thanks for the help

I am ready to purchase the encoders and was wondering if you had a specific model number for an encoder you would use for these servos? There are so many options with the US Digital encoders I just want to make sure I get the right one.

Take a look at the E5 model, the Gecko drives do not use differential (for some reason?) so you only need single ended, unless you intend to fit a differential receiver at the the drive?
Order the correct disc hole dia and resolution you need.
