I make 3/16 to be 4.7625mm so when you tighten the coupler you will be 1/8mm off center, or there abouts. IMO, if your coupler is flexible, it should be OK, at least to try.

This is assuming the 5mm coupler bore is spot on. What is the spec for tolerance ?

What is the machine ? which axis ? how fast will you be spinning it ? etc etc.

Unless you have a very special use you're going to find that the 3/16" thread to be too fine. It's either 24 or 32 pitch depending on whether it's the 'coarse' or 'fine' designation. If you're going to use All-Thread you would be better off with 3/8"-16.

if I use 5/16" threaded rod, is it possible with 8mm coupler ? from my calculation it's match.

For LinuxCNC, how to use it ? just connect the LPT port into CNC driver and configure in the software ?

    Thanks

5/16" (0.3125") is not the same as 8mm (0.31496"), so, it does not "match". But it is darned close.

If you use 5/16" rod you should be able to use a 5/16" coupling nut. Thread one end onto the All-Thread using Locktite and drill and tap a hole in the side of the other end to lock it onto the 1/4" stepper shaft.
