I think the setup is pretty sweet, but did anyone else notice the backlash in that video? It was little difficult to estimate, but could have been as much as 1/8th of an inch.

The design is pretty straight forward and it's a good video. I believe older shopbots had a similar Z axis and Y. Doesn't look hard to duplicate or make better.

I am however loving that router they were useing. Anyone know what kind it is? That quick change router chuck looks like the way to go. Anyone know if I could get one for my hitachi?

The router is a porter cable 7518. The chuck is an Eliminator. They make one that fits the Hitachi

any ideas on how to build one? ive always wanted to do cnc turning like that and have regular cnc abilities.... can anyone come up with a build like that without breaking the bank? small budget like! maybe on a way smaller scale.. it kinda reminds me of the sears router crafter. which by the way is awesome within itself.

I may be missing whats great about this particular design but I would think building a moving gantry cnc and having a table mounted 4th axis would be more beneficial. That's the direction I'd go with it.
