    X3 Y-axis Extension

I have ordered the Deluxe conversion kit from CNCFUSION. I asked for the Y axis to cover 6-3/4”. I have been informed that they will only furnish the Y in stock 5-3/4Therefore, I am thinking of adding a Tee shaped end to the Y axis screw to allow the screw to over-travel. Also I believe I can add a spacer and recover some travel lost to the longer ball nut. Any comments are appreciated.
    Thanks,

    All,

I found the information on Crevice Reamer's site. I will do something similar.

    Thanks,

What I did on my X2 was reverse the nut so that it was facing the front of the machine, and using a hole saw, cut a larger hole in the base that the nut could pass through. That gained me quite a bit on the Y Axis.

    AiR_GuNNeR,

Thanks for the suggestion. I am not sure how that applies to the X3 mill. I am planning to have the flange turned to the mill column side. I am speculating now as I am waiting on my CNC Fusion Kit to arrive. It should be here in about 1 to 2 weeks. I will have a better idea of what is required then.

    Thanks for your reply,

    Re: X3 Y-axis Extension

I have received my kit from CNCFusion. Awsome set of parts. The screws and parts are assembled by axis. My concern was the Y axis. I checked the total travel available and found it was 6-1/2". No mods to the Z column. No mods needed for the Y axis screw. Lock nuts on all screws.

I just need to get to work on installing.

Great work and thanks to CNC Fusion.

    Thanks,

    Hey Jimbo7,

I am just about to embark on the journey of CNC'ing my SX3. I just created my very first post ( after 10 years being a member of CNC Zone ) about CNC fusion ball screws. If you have a chance you might be able to answer ?
