Waterjet vs Laser for 1.00"+ Carbon Steel

Before you roll your eyes at ANOTHER jet vs laser thread, understand that I have done some homework on the subject. My understanding is that my needs fall in the "gray zone" between the two processes' strong points.

Basically, I'm open to suggestions on both the debate between processes and specific models to cut 1-1.5" Carbon Steel plate as effectively and economically as possible.

We have waterjets and lasers, and for 1" thick materials I would go with waterjet out of the two choices, we cut titanium with the lasers and struggle to get them to efficiently cut anything over .250". I would think a plasma cutter would be a better option than Laser if you are looking for something to compare waterjets to.

Our company has a plasma table. It leaves poor edges, most likely due to improper calibrations by those using it. It is also at another location.

What feed rate (rough estimate) would a waterjet be capable of operating at for this material type?

For what you want it would be around .500 - 1.00ipm depending on pressure available (ours are 90,000psi) and finish wanted.
