Unhappy VMC 4020 start up issues. Help!

My problem is that I switch the power on, then hit the "start" button but I cannot get the table and spindle as well as the controller to power up. The machine starts humming like it is powered up but these components do not turn on. Any one else have an issue similar to this. I have checked fuses and connections but I cannot seem to get it to start up. I am leaning towards the start button being bad and maybe not contacting.

So just wanted to throw this out there and see if anyone had a similar issue who could point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance. Also sorry if this has been posted before I didn't have time to search through the archives.

There is a "PC type" power supply in the side panel that may be toast

I will guess you've checked that the button is good...

Otherwise, on my fadals, I've traced back problems like this to the solid state relays.

    Good luck.

This sounds like a problem that we had with our 5020 for years. Try it at your own risk (and I have no idea why I did it the first time) but hold the green button down when you throw the knife switch. That was the only way to turn the machine on for several years until our Fadal repair guy finally found the problem. I would love to remember what it was that he replaced but I was on vacation when the fix was discovered. If this solves your problem, I will dig out our invoices to help you find the fix.

If you are not getting any of the Red LEDs blinking on the boards in the control rack then check if the power supply is putting out 5VDC and + and - 12VDC. If no VDC out then the power supply is toast.

@SBC Cycle, that worked for us. Can you remember the true fix for the problem?

    Thanks!

Sounds like the 'brown out" circuit is acting up?
