Hi Greg,
Sorry I missed your question. If you're cutting a lot of ABS, do what you can to keep everything clean... we cut a lot of it, but it's a ton of upkeep.
I've heard similar stories...
Been chatting with Melody about the failed tube, and G Weike and Reci are kindly replacing it. Again, the support from them has been great. Melody is waiting for my new tube to come in - looking...
Hi All,
Haven't updated this thread in a while, but Kim's posted reminded me it was out there.
Here's the update...
Actually had my tube fail last week. Oh noes! Machine has been in...
Auto-height is nice, but not critical. I'd get the largest tube you can afford, the refrigerated chiller, and the motorized table... those are the big three. Air assist is included. Good luck with...
Sadly, you're out of luck on that one... even with high-end US machines have the same problem. They just cut down the middle of the line. For critical parts, I use an offset in my drawing software,...
Wish I did... I never fully sorted out what all of the things in that file relate to... either in reality, or in the software settings. Have you tried reducing speed or acceleration?
You said a few things there that stuck out to me... it's not mission critical for you, you don't mind do it yourself projects, and have some CNC experience. You can 100% figure out an imported...
Sure... basically, there's no free lunch.
The key to all of it is power density - the diameter of the spot size vs. the total wattage of the beam. Only when the beam reaches a certain density...
I've had a couple questions about the air ducting, so I took a few pics this evening. The inlet is above, the outlet is below, and the duct goes through the back and connects to the base of the...
Sorry for hijacking this thread... but I wanted to close the loop here.
After a bunch of calls and emails with John @ The Logic Group, we finally determined that the board itself was a bad piece...

Synrad's Laser Processing Calculator
Your machine will have the input in mm/sec, so you may need to do a little math. I keep a text document on my desktop that I use to...
I'm 100% in agreement with the others, but I strongly recommend the chiller. You can't build anything better yourself, and it's set up to shut the tube down in the event of an stop in water flow or...
Congrats! That's a good looking machine, and a nice size. My first laser was a 12x24, and I always wished we'd gotten a 18x24 machine instead.

It sounds like a beam alignment issue - the farther the head gets from the source, the more of a problem it becomes.
Here's a guide: Laser Beam Alignment

On my list of projects is adding tapping in a nipple to blow air through the inside of the head as well - I fully agree with you there, and it's how my ULS is set up. Positive pressure inside the...
I haven't tried it for engraving, but it's been spot-on for all of my cutting projects... even the 2-3 hour ones. I was actually surprised it works as well as it does.
Engraving might be another...
Congrats Vinn! Now it's just a long wait for the boat to get here...

Another member here sent me some material and a couple of his files for test cuts, and asked me to make a few videos of it cutting:

Thought I'd post a quick update...
We're still running the machine hard, every day. I did find that one of the belts needed adjustment (see pic) - the stepper was at a slight angle. Easy fix. ...
No problem. The charges from Panda themselves were pretty nominal, probably less than $200. All of the port fees, charges and other crap are where it adds up... all together, it was around $800 by...

I right prefer my fancy meters and stuff, but the sparks and electric shock way sounds fun, too.

If it helps, any standard computer-style power supply cord should work. I replaced mine with a longer, heavier gauge one that I had on hand. Over the years, it seems I've accumulated a few dozen of...
I think what you're seeing in the pictures is more a result of my crappy phone camera, the pieces in person are actually very good. The 3/8 piece is perfect, and that cut at 7mm / sec. The 3/4...
I went to the ISA show in Orlando yesterday... several imported lasers (no G Weike), and of course the big three US companies - ULS, Epilog, Vytek. I got some quick prices, the Chinese companies...
Thanks! Unfortunately, I've done all of that. Green checkmark and all. Mach3 seems to see it, I can get into the config screen, but it seems there is no communication between the USB thing and the...
I saw another thread discussing the wireless pendants that SaleCNC and others are selling, but no results.
I bought one. Construction / quality seems decent... can't get it to run. I've...
Hi Charlie,
Mine had an FDA delay on import, but it looks like they have that sorted out now. Pretty much a case of things crossing in the mail between them and the FDA. Melody did an...
Machine is still running like a champ.
I modified the auto-height probe to make it shorter 3/4" shorter... mostly because that's where I broke it off. Now it's about 1/4" below the nozzle, and...
Post #107, wherein my machine catches fire...
Well, the inevitable happened. Yesterday, one of my guys forgot to turn on the shop air compressor. We started cutting ABS, and apparently bled the...
