Great advice, thanks for the informative replies. You mentioned that you didn't go with CNCFusion, does that imply that you cut your own ballscrews? If so, how did that go?

Great advice, thanks for the informative replies. You mentioned that you didn't go with CNCFusion, does that imply that you cut your own ballscrews? If so, how did that go?
It really depends. Most CNC conversions will use some combination of a jog wheel (MPG), joystick (like on a claw grabber machine), buttons, and/or a keypad. That's enough to use the machine...
Wow, over 100 views, 5 days go by, and no replies?
Guess I've not missed much after all.
Hi all,
This is my first (meaningful) post since 2008, it's been about eight years or so since I purchased a Grizzly G0463. I've used it just a few times and mostly it's just sat in public...
I've had many years of experience making them myself, yet I still order all of my boards from Advanced Circuits, their sister site Barebones PCB, or Sparkfun's Batchpcb.
With the surface-mount...
* Belt drives turn a large piston (or two) very slowly through reduction pulleys. They almost always cost more than a direct-drive.
* Direct-drives turn a very small piston at the same speed as...

This one seems a better deal anyway, for the same price you get 28 gallons rather than 20. If I didn't...
This is the one I have. Mine's an older model but looks almost identical. Again, this one is quiet enough you can have a conversation without raising your voice, and the capacity is high enough for...
Okay, I have a bandsaw so I'll try to remove as much material as possible that way, and then try the flycutter.
Thanks,
Neil
Nice. Can you take a picture of the exact hole saw you used so I know which one to buy?
Would this one work? http://www.grizzly.com/products/Large-Saw-Toothed-Forstner-Bit-2-1-2-/G1827

Will woodworking bits work, or are there specialized metal-cutting versions out there? I've never seen these in any of my tool catalogs...
Craftsman, Campbell Hausfeld, any of the ones at your local hardware store or home improvement store (or department store in the case of Sears). When you're looking at the different models, simply...
I have a Campbell Housefeld belt-drive compressor that I payed $150 for on Craigslist. It's given me many years of reliable service and it's quiet enough that I can use it in the garage at 3:00 AM. ...
I think cncbasher was suggesting to move the table in one axis so that on each depth pass, the cutting bit actually removes all of the material, not just an outer ring as you mentioned. I don't...
Well for me this is the cheapest way to go since I already have a flycutter. I'll try it out and report back here if I have any problems...
Thanks,
Neil
The surface doesn't have to be precision at all. The pieces will be saddle blocks for a 2.5" diameter ultralight airplane boom. The flat part will go the L-channel that is part of the engine mount....
What's the best way to cut the following hole with a non-CNC Grizzly X3?
- Material: 6061-T6
- 2.5" diameter
- 1.5" deep
- Semi-circle "pillow block" (see picture below)
- Tolerance: +/-...
Not sure of anyone selling them in Canada. You could drive across the border and get one from Grizzly :D our exchange rate might save you a bit of cash, and help our economy out a bit
...
It protects you and your machine from an inherently nasty Windows problem. When Mach3 runs and outputs pulses, it's never guaranteed to get is required CPU slot time. So if another program or some...
Cool. Don't forget to pick up a charge-pump circuit from CNC4PC before you start cutting parts, if you haven't already :)
I've never owned a Taig but they can be made into great machines. But yes, you should buy the biggest machine you can afford ... And for $3k you can do bigger than a taig :)
Right now I'm a bit...
Nope, no main differences, other than possibly cost. The solid-state relay approach (carter-tools link) is better in my opinion since there are no contacts to wear out. But for a hobby mill this is...
Looks to be a re-branded CNC4PC breakout board. Here's the actual page with documentation:

Luckily they sell a relay...
yes. They're made for the 5/8" Nooks and Rotons everyone is using the these days. FYI the machining on them is very nice. They came from Widgitmaster on this forum.
I assume you have some sort of breakout board. You should have some relay outputs coming out of it. Whether or not the relays are part of the breakout board depend on the model. Most simply have...
I used to own a sherline CNC. It would take me hours to make something like that. And whereas some machines could do that kind of stuff unattended, the Sherline needs constant supervision...
I have three flange nuts for the Nook ballnuts that I won't be needing. I'll sell them for $6 each (+shipping&paypal fee). PM me if you're interested.
I believe they will fit my X3 mill. They are a bit bigger than the Nook square nuts, but not by much.
They're probably happy they got a ballscrew setup for <$100. I can relate, I bought a...
So for that price, are they 'Made in the USA' by Rex Industries, or imported from a foriegn vendor?
