I've accepted BC for what it is - a pretty capable program that meets almost all of our needs. I never understood why the sales tactics...
Thanks, Burr. Didn't realize that. Certainly a step in the right direction! I didn't see in the video, though... is there a way to drive one feature based off another? i.e. 'locate this hole 20% of...
Re: the specific question of modeling in BobCad, I think there are valid points on 'both' sides to consider -
1) Modeling a single part : As many have pointed out - it might not be comfortable or...
Right on.... THAT is what I was remembering..... by distorting an elliptical shape and using randomize, you can simulate a shallow gouged surface.
That's what I was thinking of.
Well, as a side...
Thanks, Jeff! Great thread.
My memory really must be going.... I was sure that I remembered a different function. No matter... the photo emboss workflow will work just fine. Thanks!
This isn't something I do every day, but I seem to recall that v26 BobArt had the ability to make embossed background textures somehow.
I see emboss weave.... but I was sure that I remembered...
Thanks again, mmoe.
I'd toyed around with the idea of reorienting geometry, but didn't recognize that it would make the UCS part simpler. Given that, it makes much more sense.
I'll revise the...
Thanks a ton, mmoe -
I had experimented with the segmented-boundary approach as you described, and it works well enough. As you say, a bit more programming, but it works.
So the second part...
I'm using V26 and doing mostly 2D, but definitely some 3D toolpaths. I've attached an example of a part where I'd really like to toolpath just the ring, but when I select inner and outer boundaries,...
BTW.... this appears to have been addressed. Now, even dumb old machines like mine can do ramp entries and contour ramping. Nice :)
Maybe it's a funny grey area.....
pay for 'bug fixes?' No, probably nobody's going to get excited about that.
pay for new features? Of course, that makes sense and most people would find it...
Hi Don -
There are many, many ways to build a box.... maybe with some more details we could help.
When you say 'resize to fit some designs I have done'... it sounds as if you're talking about...
Actually.... I heard back from Kenny Stiles @ BobCAD this am.... it sounds like this has been addressed. I'll let you know when I get 1335 loaded and confirm it.
I also just ran into this. V26 doesn't work on my older machine yet, and I was hoping that the next maintenance release would solve it, and I'd be able to start using it.
I don't see my particular...
Hi Al.... just checking in on this : I saw Build 1335 posted, but it doesn't look like there's anything listed about correcting this.
Can you advise when you get a minute?
Thanks, guys!
My machine doesn't understand helix arcs, but at least I know it's not me :)
Will eagerly await an update on this one.
The most *likely* issue is that you're hitting the 2GB process max in 32-bit Windows. Unless the process is specifically large-address-enabled, even if your PC has more than 2GB, the OS can't address...
As I'm the one who starting this particular ball/thread rolling.... I guess from my perspective, it's unfortunate that these things happen, but it appears to be more than an isolated incident. I...
I've been running V26 next to V25.... for the most part with no issues. Love some of the new features, but have a headscratcher when it comes to ramp entries.
I confess I might not be the mos...
Thanks, LeWhite - these variables are exactly the ones I tried..... they all output the original name, not the renamed name in the CAM tree.
When I rename features in the CAM tres, I'd like to be...
Hopefully a quick question....
V26. I rename all my features to something descriptive.... i.e. "Cut Magnet Holes"
When posted, the system_name, system_name_comment, feature_name and...
This probably doesn't help, but I did open your file in V26, blanked out the solid, and the toolpath appears visually to be correct.
I don't have your post, so I don't know what your output looks...
I'd second what mmoe said -
I used AutoCAD from ~1985-2009 and was a huge evangelist, but it's not something that can be learned part-time or casually. Our rule of thumb was basically that somebody...
Re: AutoCAD workflow.... ideally, I'd suggest modeling the whole ski as a 3D model.... so you're creating the PTex, core strips, topsheet and top/bottom mold all in 3D space. This is better (IMHO)...

Your file opens just fine for me in AutoCAD, but the top shape is an extruded surface, not a solid. I think this is the root of your issue.
The file also opens just fine in BC, but I...
I think most of us would be taking a SWAG as to what's really going on, without something to look at.
If you can't post the file, is it possible to create a quick test part using the same workflow,...

A lot of folks might not be familiar with fiberoptic principles, but standard acrylic behaves pretty much like a fiberoptic cable : the goal is to get as...
NewHobby - I'll confess to being one of the outspoken critics or BC sales. Frankly, they've ruffled my feathers a couple of times in the last few releases, but I believe they're aware of the issue...
Good advice posted already. Lower RPM / higher feeds / keep it cool.
Just one additional thought - reading between the lines, I'm guessing you might be running a router, vs a mill. While beone's...
Re: ACAD files.... we've all been there and done it. Just a reminder that shortcuts upstream will almost always cost you downstream... but that's not your current issue :)
