Selling my Grizzly G0704 milling machine converted to CNC with a custom spindle and many other features. A complete build of this appears on my CNCZone thread (I can send you the link if interested)....
Ok, still plugging away with the G0704 and Phase 2 conversion but after 8 years I feel like my X and Y backlash is just getting a little sloppy (.003" Y, .004" X) and I'm considering converting to...
Nope, I left the treadmill motor on. I use this machine to produce the parts for the fly fishing reels I manufacture so I have to keep it operational. I can't afford "time".
Ok, thanks I'll make the edits and test it out. I really appreciate the help!
@The Engine Guy, looks like I'm going to have to go through your post and make some edits. I attempted to use an output gcode file this weekend and got an odd "can't perform 2 g-codes" (paraphrasing)...
Ha! I managed to keep my 1970 911S through those days until this past September when I needed to sell it for college tuition for my youngest. But they are going to have to pry the cabriolet from my...
Every once in a while the stars align!
Dan911, might be a good time to upgrade from XP also. I am very impressed with the overall performance of Windows 10 even on this older machine.
What sort of 911 do you have? I have an 83...
I haven't had a chance to install the new ball nut mount yet - I did a 750 mile round trip driving my son back to college. But I did want to add something here...
Several weeks ago my Windows XP...
Here's a little update to close the loop...
I ordered the UC100 and it arrived on Saturday 2 weeks ago (1 day shipping). I also headed to my local used PC shop and picked up a pretty nice HP...
Well the new mount is all done. It is almost 1/4" longer than the original and a little tighter fit in the slot too. I have high hopes!
For several years I have struggled with variable backlash on my Y axis. I've torn apart, rebuilt, replaced ballbearings in the nut, extended, moved the stepper to the rear and many other mods...
So spending more time with this I've developed some "tabbing chops"! Basically, I extracted a single edge (so now I know how to use that tool) to it's own layer so I can manipulate it easier. I then...
Well, no they aren't 120° but they are close enough for what I am trying to do.
Yes, I was experimenting after I replied. I did Utilities->Extract Edges-> From Solid
Interestingly, this resulted in 11 arcs. I was able to move tabs to the ends of these arcs to get the tab...
Yes, that is exactly what I am looking for!
My part is a 3D geometry and when I attempt to do Entity Modify, nothing happens. Is there a trick to that or do I just need to draw separate circles...
I can't seem to be able to locate the tabs where I need them on a circular part. See attached screenshot. Basically, this is the left most of two parts. I would like the tabs on this part rotated...
A couple of things @cambridgecnc:
BobCAD does do tabs, I use them frequently. Nesting is a completely different thing. There is a Nesting add-on. Is that what you are referring to? I don't have...
Rob, I was traveling for work earlier this week and now that I'm home I installed your post and tried out the features. It looks great, thank you very much! I haven't cut any metal yet but I read...
I ended up getting the UC100 and got it the next day via Amazon so I could quickly get this controller back on line. It took less than 30 minutes to install and hook up to my BOB and start milling!...
This is right on the CNCFusion product page:
Standard ballscrew kits use 5/8" Thomson ballscrews with a .200 pitch. Here is a link to the Thomson catalog page with detailed information on the...
If you want to use the same mount, etc, I would recommend getting Thompson as that is what CNCFusion uses. That way you won't have to make a new ball nut mount.

Mike, you also need to have the end of the ballscrew machined for the bearings and coupler for the stepper. That's why we recommended getting the screw from CNCFusion - they would turn the screw end...
+1 MikeC8. I've been doing this long enough that I know the routine! I wouldn't care at all about the wasted Z movements for a one off. My goal is to "internalize" how BC works so I can pick the best...
Ok, thanks all - especially Rob and SBC Cycle.
I just want to make a few comments, primary for jrmach and others to understand what this is all about...
This is a business, not a hobby....
Well, with a bit of dedicated effort I'm "over the hump". I have the code working to control my lathe and working on the VFD spindle drive now. It actually makes a lot of sense once you get into it...
I do use the setup sheets. They are very helpful. For my workflow, I do all my CAD and CAM work in my office upstairs in my home. I share everything on DropBox so the gcode and setup sheet for each...
On the Rapid Plane move question, the rapid appears to be confined to the operation - movements between operations appears to be at the Clearance Plane. So in this case where I select geometry on all...
Correct, I set my spindle manually right now. Once I re-enable spindle control, I can update the post to handle that.
I started playing around with things to see how it works. So far it looks...
Thanks a lot Rob. I didn't have a chance to take a look at these yet, I had to machine about 60 parts today on this fixture so I simply manually edited the gcode file and added 2 stops to put the...
