Julian,
I know this is an old thread, but I'm wondering if you ever finished up your Z axis mod. I've got an old Bridgemill which I think has a similar mill head to yours. I'm wanting to upgrade to...
CAD226B, I've got a Bridgemill and I'd like to put ballscrews on my Z (actually all 3 axis). Any chance you have drawings of what you did that you would be willing to share?
Seems we are both in the same position. I would also like to upgrade to ball screws. I'd really like to do the dual screw Z axis that Chuck made years ago. Anyone out there that upgraded and still...
The screw should be fixed to the lower mount plate, which is attached to the spindle. The pulley is attached to the nut which turns on bearings in the upper mounting plate which is attached to the...
Each time I've moved mine, I take the legs off first. That way the heavy part is sown low enoug so I can lift it with my engine hoist. I've put it on and off the back of a pick up a couple times....
It all depends on what you are measuring. That said, I'd check the spindle flange first. Pull the chuck off and do a check for runout on both the flange face and the outside and inside diameter. If...
Try running larger distances and see what it does. Then overtravel in one direction, then bring it back to the desired location and see what the delta is. Report back and we'll see if we can help.
Like any software, there are learning curves. I have TC Pro 11.2, and I just got Pro 17. Between the two, the interface is pretty much the same (CADCOURSE Interface), but there are lots of new tools....
Tom,
Sounds like either your tailstock isn't on center, or you have way too much overhang for your tool. Another problem could be the gibs on the cross slide are a little too loose. Rigidity is your...
Here is a link to some pics of how I did it on my Bridgemill

I've got a 2006 vintage bridgemill and it came with a traditional type compound. Since my machine is CNC, I made a block to hold a BXA quick change tool post and no longer use the compound. Looking...
The G540 manual gives the info you need. It can be found here http://www.geckodrive.com/product.aspx?c=3&i=14469
Pins 10 and 12 should show continuity unless you have an E stop switch. If there is...
The Shoptask web site says it's supposed to be 4". That's what they said on my Bridgemill also, but the actiual travel is only about 2 3/4".
I started with magnets for limit switches and didn't like it. If you cut steel or other magnetic materials, the swarf clings to the magnets and is a pain. I went with adjustable ramps that I can...
Checking/changing the oil isn't a big thing. After shipping I'd check alignment and torque on all the bolts. Also check tram on the mill head. Likewise, all the gibs will most likely need to be...
I've got a Bridgemill and am stisfied with it. I got it used about 2 1/2 years ago. It is set up with CNC, and it had a fair amount of additional looling, cnc rotary table, carbide insert endmills...
Sprint 77,
Did you make drawings of your ball screw/nuts? I've got a Bridgemill that " would like to eventually convert, but don't want to tear the machine apart to measure, then reassemble to cut...
An easier solution is to have 2 setups in Mach3. One for the mill and one for the lathe. In the profile setup, you can specify which pins control which motor, so it can all be done in mach.
Has anyone asked JT if he is going to offer an upgrade kit for older machines? I'd like to upgrade my Bridgemill, but not sure I can justify the expense. I'm set up for CNC, so all I'm interested in...
You might want to get the NewFangledSolutions wizards for Mach III. I think they are only about $50 and they will do about 80% of the programing for almost anything you might want to machine. I find...
That's what I've been toying with. Change the flimsy fifth column to a dovetail. The main problem is that the lathe bed is attached to the table and the table is not a rigid as I would like. Perhaps...

Another thing to consider. Mach II is pretty old now. Mach III has been out for years and there have been constant updates to it. If you have a licensed copy of Mach II, you are eligable for free...
What is the smallest diameter tube that a plasma could cope? I want to build an airplane and tubes go as small as 1/4 X .025. Most are 5/8 X .035. Could this be done on a plasma? I was thinking of...

Sharp,
Have you gone to the AC VFD drives yet? If so, what are you doing with the DC system? PM me n14ky(at)aol(dot)com if you want to sell them.
David
http://cnc4pc.com/Tech_Docs/C6R6_User_Manual.pdf pretty much covers it. Get the manual for your VFD and match up where the 0-10 V speed control input connects.
Dan,
Nice trikes.
What size tube can you go down to with the plasma? Looks like most of the stuff on the trikes is 5/8 to 3/4 diameter. In airplane construction, we can go from say 1"X.058 wall...
Dan,
That's why the optimum design would be to machine both ends without unclamping. A gantry type machine with a bed long enough to secure and machine both ends.
The cheap method of using an...
