I finished mounting x servo motor.
With the column now on base I needed to make covers for the X cars. Facing upside down I had to cover them to keep them from getting full of chips. My chip drawer had to be changed from my my...
Mounted servo for Z ball screw.
Z spindle bracket complete I’m able to attach spindle plate and bolt top ball screw bearing bracket to the top plate.
Finished z balls screw bracket. Clearance was issue. Grinder got real work out.
For the z ball screw bracket I’m going to use two pieces of plate and weld them together. There isn’t a lot of room in the casting slot so I’m going to have to grind off excess casting. It varies...
My Y ball screw mount was going to hitting table so instead of grinding material off to make room for ball screw I made aluminum spacers to give me some clearance.
I received my Masso touch screen and had to modify my mount. I originally was going to use computer tower and monitor with mach3. The screen mount was setup for old computer monitor. And it didn’t...
Finally getting my mill base on my stand. It’s been a long time coming.
Want to get Z ball screw as close as possible since base bearing and column bearing are not tided together. I will land top bearing when it’s setting on stand and can get it close as possible. It’s...
My enclosure which I had started before I moved down to my new work shop was going to set on concrete risers that I had made. But now I’m going to set it on I beam legs of my hoist. But when I set it...
Belt tension was good so I think I can get away with out tensioner. I originally was going to do one but now I don’t see the need.
Ended up with 44 tooth and a 72 tooth for my x axis. 22 tooth was to small.
When I started this project 8 years ago I wanted x servo out the back instead of the front. I had already started my enclosure and don’t have room to run servo straight out the back. The servo’s are...
Digging through my junk bins I found 72 tooth timing gear that will fit my ball screw. I think that with 5mm pitch and 5000 rpm, 22 tooth servo sprocket I’m hoping to get to 300 in/m. If my math is...
Assembled ball screw after getting ends whittled down. Need to figure sprockets for servo. Servo 5000 rpm 2.7hp, ball screw 5 mm pitch. I’m not sure what speed I should be shooting for. Any advice...
Trying to figure out my ball screws. The oil lubrication pump originally was going to be use for dovetails I now need to convert to oil ball screws. I have no knowledge about these double nuts and...
Decided to get rid of pool blue and go with navy blue.
I finished the ball screw mount for the table today. I had to cut down ball screw nut flange to make clearance for table. I didn’t want to remove any metal on the table if I didn’t have to.
Finished painting and wiring. Back to working on mill.
We were able to stand column up and attach boom. It took 5 of us to get that boom mounted. I can finish painting and wiring so I can finally get back to working on my mill.
The pin is 1 1/2 square bar that I turned for brass bushings and bearing cups. My Millermatic is running at its maximum, I just hope it is enough. I’m not a very good welder so don’t look too close....
Peter you cabinet is really done. ????
I'm thinking of going with Masso touch for my controller any thoughts on this.
Got some welding done today. On to pivot and mount for column.
The larger C channel I decided to cut in half and weld the two halves together to form triangle on top of the smaller C channel. It made for lot more work but I wanted to use metal given to me if...
Bolted base to floor now I need to start on boom. They gave me 2 I beams and 2 C channels. I used 1 I beam for column and 1 for base. I was going to weld C channels together to make boom but when I...
We cut up one of the I beams to make a base for the crane. I’m going to set mill on top of the base so column will be centered over mill. The electric winch came in so I need to start making boom and...
Got some paint on column. I’m going to use the larger servo on z axis's since it has lower rpm and a brake and I can direct couple it to eliminate gears and belt.
It felt more like flue than Covid. Gave it to my wife which made the war department happy. I’m feeling a lot better now so I can get back to working on mill. Thanks for your comments they’re greatly...
