Thanks everyone for your help. Project Curves with the "optimize curve order" option selected does the trick perfectly.
Cheers,
Dean
thank you everyone. i will try Project Curve engraving to see if it engraves in a different order than 2D profiling, and thank you Joakim I will consider upgrading to rhino5 and madcam5. it...
svenlaka, I like your idea but I don't think I have the Project Curves strategy available to me in MadCamv4.3. if so where would i find it?
thanks,
Dean
Dan, your toolpath does look much nicer than the Rhino4+MadCam4 toolpath. Unfortunately the $1700 upgrade cost is prohibitive.
The font is MECSOFT-FONT1....
thank you Dan. Much appreciated.
Here is the rhino file...

Kai, my guess is this is electrical noise on the cable going to your A axis motor. If you have electrical noise in an open loop setup (stepper motors) then the A axis motor will turn but the DRO...
I often engrave words into my workpiece. I create a text object using a single-stroke font, grouping the letters together into one group object, then use 2D Along Curve profiling to create the...
I have a part that requires tapping many holes.
I don't have a tapping head.
I defined a toolpath that drills all the holes, now I want to insert my spring loaded tap guide into the spindle and...
thank you Joakim!
Setting * ANGLE_OUTPUT * to CONTINUOUS does not appear to work for me however setting the "5-axis angles" to "continuous" on the simulator options dialog does fix the problem. I...
I am pulling my hair out trying to get 4-axis working and am asking for help from anyone who is using MadCam 4-axis with Mach3 successfully.
I am trying to mill the attached model (zip file): it...
thanks Sven, yup I have that toolbar, and yes I get the question to select the rotary and spindle axis.
... discovered the explanation in the 4-axis section of the program help files: ...
yes, I have the full 4+5 axis version, and I can successfully replicate your indexed 4 axis tutorial where you create two 3D toolpaths then switch the machine setup to 4 axis and it will cut one then...
sorry for the silly question but... I can't find the menu for the continuous 4 axis functions. I've enabled every MadCam toolbar, set the machine into 4 axis mode, and looked through the options...
thanks for your help svenakela. I'll keep plugging away trying to use your method but my program isn't behaving the same way yours is ...
thanks fellas. The limiting surface method works great...
thanks svenakela, I will try the rotate method rather than the c-plane method.
I'm confused about two things in your video however (sorry :-)
1) how do you get MadCam to emit G code that...
thanks svenakela. PM sent.

thanks zcnc4u.
I am having a lot of trouble with clipping planes so I would ike to try your method. But I'm not clear... I select the model then shift-click to also select the "clipping" surface......
This is my first attempt at 4 axis milling. I am trying to follow the 4-axis milling tutorials to the letter, but my MadCam v4.3 isn't behaving like this tutorial...
I am having a heck of a time with clipping planes.
My stock model goes from Z Top=0 to Z Bottom=-2.625 (attached thumbnail #1).
I want to mill just the top half of my part so I set the top clipping...
It yielded with a little persuasion and penetrating lubricant.
Yay!
ok thanks I'll try unscrewing it with gusto.
It is right hand thread isn't it??
The trunnion table and rotary table all came with the mill. I bought it second hand off craigslist but it is a DeepGroove1 product (Deepgroove1 Home Page).
Might be too small for a guitar neck...
thanks...
so... the nut remains threaded onto the bottom of the adapter, the adapter remains in the table center hole, and the chuck simply unscrews from the adapter? Is there any retaining...
Last year I bought a 4-axis Taig CNC with a rotary table like this one .
The 3-jaw chuck was attached to the rotary table when I got it. It also came with a trunion table like this one.
Now I...
thank you svenakela.
I have a workpiece that is to be continuous 4-axis milled but the stock will crash against the table if the A axis is rotated beyond 30 degrees below horizontal. How do I set MadCam to limit A axis...
thank you for the fast reply Joakim.
I tried your suggested way and it is working :-)
Dean.
I want to cut a 60 degree dovetail slot 0.050" deep (sides undercut 0.038").
I have defined the toolpath to hog out the slot with vertical sides, and I have defined a dovetail tool (as suggested in...
