Thanks for all of the replies. I would love a copy of those files if you wouldn't mind. I like the way it looked, especially with the air cylinder on the top. That is exactly the combo I was...
All,
I am finally starting to prepare for the upgrade of the spindle motor on my X3 to something belt driven. I am finally tired of all of that gear noise that it makes.
I am trying to figure...
Thanks for the replies.
The hole looks round, in fact it is hard to tell it is off without measuring it. I don't notice any areas around the circle that look weird.
I am using an X3 with the...
Hey Guys,
I started working on my mill again recently, and am trying to figure out a problem that I seem to have with the machine.
I have a program that is doing a helical bore to create a .5"...
Does anyone have any solidworks drawing of an X3 that they would mind sharing?
Thanks
Bodysnatcher,
Any updates... I am looking forward to see how you are going to convert your lathe to CNC.
Hi,
I have a HF 8x12 kicking around and I was thinking about CNCing it....
Anyone converted one or have plans for it?
Thanks
MRM,
How did you extend the y axis travel?
I gather you have a 1" longer ball screw, but was there anything else you did?
Thanks
Sure...
I actually called Applied Industrial in San Jose as they are local and I was hoping to pick them up the same day. They had to order them in anyway and shipped to my house.
I gave them...
Thorpydo,
Looks really cool.
I recently replaced all of the bearing on my spindle. I replaced the bearings with ABEC 5 bearings that are supposed to be good to about 11k rpm.
Now I want to...
Thorpydo,
I am interested in what you did to the high speed spindle... do you have any pics or information that you can share about it? I am trying to decide what to do to my X3 spindle.

Hoss,
Here is the 1024 autoprobe screenset that you made with the G90/G91 fixes added. It is added to all of the Z probing (including the corner probing.)
I also added some error checking (if...
Well, it was a G90/G91 problem.
I was in G91 and it was screwing things up. Once I switched to G90, the problems went away.
I then tried the new script that Greolt put together, and now things...
Strange thing is that mine is off already. The "Tool Offset On/Off" button doesn't toggle it either.
Am I missing something?
Hoss,
I am using the 'hoss1024probing.set' and I am having a strange problem with the Z axis.
When I hit the z probe button, it will probe z- and when it touches, it pauses and then jogs a...
Thanks Bob.
I got it working...
I couldn't find anything strange, so I decided to start again with another XML file and configure mach3 from scratch... and this time it was working.
I am going...
Yes, the clicking is the relay on the BOB (pin16). The strange thing is that the relay only clicks at the 6.5v threshold... I have the relay (dir) on the spindle set to pin16 (see...
Has anyone replaced the x3 spindle motor with a servo motor?
Is it even a good idea?

Awesome... looks like I overpaid.
I got it from LMS: http://www.littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=3414&category=
It works really well. The jog dial has steps in the...
It sounds like it is the same as my X3. I also don't have a screw on the bottom.
To tighten it, I had a friend lift up on the front of the head whilst I tightened the big flat screw on the top. ...
Thanks guys,
I bought some shim stock (0.001 and 0.003.) I figured it may help with this.
I will give it a try and see if I can get it close.
Thanks!
Has anyone trammed the head on an X3? It looks like my head may not be to tram... when I fly cut something, I only have line going one direction like it is cutting on one side.
How do you tram it?...
Thanks!
I am going to give it a try.
2 questions:
1. What is the diameter of the tube that the kit came with? My was preload and didn't come with the tubes.
2. When you drilled the hole on the...
[QUOTE=Kalvin;539548]
Finished my stand, so I started on the conversion. First on the list was to tap the Y axis ball screw and build a stop. I read of others experiences and figured it was time...
Thanks ataxy...
How far do you have the gib tightening screw turned in? Is it sticking out or is it close to flush with the top head?
How do you pull the gib out to inspect? Can you do it...
All,
I setup an indicator against the head of my x3 (was mounted to the table) and found that if I push gently on the side of the head, I get about 0.005-6" of play in it. When I stop pushing,...
I went and bought some Thomas & Betts non-metallic conduit from Wesco, but it is a little heavier duty than what I was hoping for. Guess I will keep looking.
I am really looking for the non-split...
