    found it :) the button at the top of the top left gold piece was screwed in wrong

    So the rod which pushed up was getting caught. once i screwed it back in no more jams!!! :)

    Ah thanks guys, i had just swapped out the leads and yep i could move the table using the y axis buttons, but then the y axis would only go in one direction.
