Plaster of paris , painted thinly on stainless will allow you to mark it black,
There is a much easier way to mark metals with a laser printer.
Get transfer paper from the magic touch , use it in the laser printer , heat press it on the metal ..you can not only get black but...
Red dot is more a source of trouble than its worth. the nozzle has a small hole in it so you more or less know where you firing and as has been said , the red dot is never that precise ...

The fixation about pricing in China is ridiculous... In the laser world , I would WILLINGLY pay a big premium , even 25% above anything else for top quality parts , comprehensive spares , a decent...
Keep on waterjetting the thick stuff and buy a cheaper 60/80w laser for the engraving and cutting thinner stuff.
With a 50mm lens we can cut up to 8mm with an 80w RECI...thats about the limit for a...

Those 40w hobby type lasers go for round $499 ex china.. and to be blunt , they are utter crap. No reputable chinese laser mnfgr will recommend one (even if they make them) and some wont sell you one...
Really bad form for one manufacturer to bad mouth another ... I wouldn't buy from a company that does that.
Check the software and design , if you have a rectangle around the word TEST and raster engrave , you might get a solid black rectangle
Bert , the moment you saw the original poster had an FSL machine , you jumped on your anti FSL bandwagon using vulgar language to boot , despite the thread being about settings , with no opinion...
You were edited and ghosted from the Sawmillcreek forum cos you decided to go on a rant about FSL in threads which were not about FSL , hijacking the threads for your own personal crusade.....
Styrene cuts ok , we use it for stencils , similar to ABS , It does however release a white powder which gets all over the machine innards.
I have even cut the expanded stuff (the packaging material...
Great FAQ site Dave , should be required reading...
I would be very wary of buying an open machine to cut rubber , most of the 2500 x 1250 machines are open machines, and 8mm might be too thick for even a 150W tube ..
Rubber stinks like crazy when...
My supplier of choice would be Shenhui..I have 2 of their lasers and had them for 2 years , and use them 8 hours a day , 5 days a week in a very rugged environment , the users are not at all...
I would infinitely rather go with the known and tried and trusted supplier than an unheard of one.. my unbiased opinion is to go with G weike
I bought from Shenhui , but to be fair had gone to their...
It really isn't total watts that count , it's energy density , IE the watts concentrated on a spot. You would have to know the exact spot size plus the TEM mode the laser is operating in to even come...
Probably round US $4k ex china , add in another $800 or so for freight etc..less then $5000 at any rate..brand new...
for simple cutting and no burning whatseover , I would have a look at one of these

Extruded should actually cut better than cast , perhaps what you got was not Acrylic (Perspex is a trade name)
You can tell if it is cast or extruded by burning a small piece , cast acrylic will...
We do 100's of paint filled lasered acrylic pieces a day. The biggest problem is that acrylic becomes stressed when lasered , worse with extruded vs cast acrylic.
So ideally you want to use cast...

The radiator/bucket/aquarium pump/fan is barely adequate for a 60 w, should be ok for a 40w basically the cw 3000 chillers are that or worse (some just water and a pump and a fan)
The CW5000 is a...

1/4" ally? no idea , but I think it will be KW's if it's a Co2 laser
perhaps a 500-650W yag , like this machine , will do it..at a stiff price...

I have done direct engraving on stainless steel with an 80w RECI and a 38mm lens , it is EXTREMELY slow compared to cerdec and somewhat variable. In raster mode , its way too slow , but in vector...
Laserworks 6 is a more than capable program/driver/whatever , and to run it you would normally have to use a RDLC320 motherboard , which is also a very capable unit.
I would use a electro/chemical etch system.
