    Re: 40W CO2 laser issues - driver?

I spoke to the seller from Amazon, who then contacted the manufacturer of the power supply. I assumed the seller was the manufacturer of the unit, and that they were contacting their parts...

    Re: 40W CO2 laser issues - driver?

I contacted the manufacturer and they're shipping me a new power supply. It should be here some time next week. They also gave me a $20 refund for my troubles. It's not much, but it helps.

I'm not home right now so I can't take any more pics, but this is one I took of the sticker on the side of the power supply. ...

    Re: 40W CO2 laser issues - driver?

I don't know. How would I figure that out? It's putting out the correct 24V to the laser, it's just not putting out 5V to the controller board.

    Re: 40W CO2 laser issues - driver?

I have it plugged into a 110V socket if that's what you're asking.

    Re: 40W CO2 laser issues - driver?

Ok so a friend of mine took a look at this last night with a multimeter, and this is what he found. The power supply is providing 24V and 0.9V to the controller board. On the board itself, it states...

Here it is, I am not sure I want to take the casing apart since it might void the warranty.

    Re: 40W CO2 laser issues - driver?

    1) I wasn't given MoshiDraw. I was given LaserDRW.

    2) I have been in contact with the seller. I'm grateful that they've made the effort to learn English so they can try and help me, but their...

    40W CO2 laser issues - driver?

I just purchased the laser linked below from amazon. I have it all hooked up and I installed the software I can find on the CD they sent me. There were no instructions and the CD was in Chinese so...
  12. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

Ok so I finally got around to oiling the screw drive with the Vactra. Then I reduced the axis velocities as low as they would go. No deal. I still can't carve a circle. So I was thinking that if the...
  13. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

I just placed an order for the Vactra oil. Stepping down the speed by itself didn't help. Also apparently the WD40 I had lying around was a bad idea. It seems to have stripped the black grease that...
  14. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

What is the best thing to use for lubricant? I'll also try to lower the acceleration a bit and see if it fixes it. Thanks!
  15. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

Ok so first off, thanks a ton to everyone for the pointers. I got the problem pretty much fixed. I only get melting issues when I accidentally set the Z axis too low now. I reduced the pass length...
  16. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

Not good news, but I appreciate the honesty. What do you think about putting the material in the freezer and popping it out just before carving? I know that may harden the material, making it...
  17. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

Ok so I got everything set up and tried etching some plastic. The bit I have is a 0.6mm end mill bit. The problem is it is fine for a few minutes and then just starts melting the plastic and making...
  18. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

So based on your advise, I tried looking through the mostly Chinese user manual for the numbers to fit into the calculation. Oddly enough I found a steps/mm table. Seems to be working much better...
  19. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

That's my problem. The software says I moved 4mm when it really moved 10mm. How do I find the proper steps/mm for my machine?
  20. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

That actually clarifies a lot, man. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain it to me like that. I just retested it and while the Z axis seems to be pretty close now, the XY is still way...
  21. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

If you look at the top right screen in the screenshot in the link below, you'll see that the butterfly is shifted to the top right and way off the material. The design has 3 butterflies, and the...
  22. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

I tried both the G21 fix and removing the change tool command. Neither really did anything. I did however go in and change the Z homing to 6 instead of 20. Now when the spindle goes up it doesn't...
  23. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

    Excellent. I'll try that. Thanks!!

Thanks, Ben. I'll look into the G21 code as well as the suggestion above. I ran the sample roadrunner code properly so I think it's something specific to...
  24. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

That's another option. Thanks, man. I'll look into it. For now though I really want to get to a spot where I can actually carve something first. I just feel like I've invested a lot of time and...
  25. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

Also, I checked into the Mach3 demo version limitations and it has the "Start from line ####" function disabled so it would be really hard to break the image into pieces of 500. Dang it.
  26. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

Ian, I found the ZSafe, but I can't figure out how to edit it. Even so, a Z home of 20mm shouldn't make it travel all the way to the upper limit before dropping down to carve. If I can get these...
  27. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

Here are three screencaps of what I'm running. I found the ZSafe, but can't figure out how to edit it. I converted the vectors to gcode (arc) because that's the one that seems to have the least...
  28. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

The programs were supplied. I have no idea as to their legitimacy, but if I have the 500 line problem, I assume I at least have a demo of Mach3. Are demos legit? How would I get around the 500 line...
  29. Re: Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

To clarify, when I transfer the code over, it displays in such a manner that most of it is hanging over the edge of the material edge. I have the home set to the bottom left corner with the Z-Axis...
  30. Need help getting my initial set-up to work.

I have a CNC 3020T model and I'm running Aspire 3.5 and Mach 3. I am having an issue with mach3 not progressing past code line 500. I also cannot get the gcode conversion right. the image is...
