I never bothered running a ground wire from the 220V plug, to the J1 connector on KSTEP, so it always just ran of the +/- from the transformer/capacitors, with the ground on the 220V plug cut off....

Yup. I didn't touch the ports/pins settings but the EStop was configured to pin 10 by default. Set it to 0 and it fixed the problem. Such is the life of a noob :)
