My suggestions would be to build a joes hybrid rack and pinion drive. Use the hobbycnc 425 oz motors and the gecko drive g540....

Make sure you get some replacement pinions in stock and up on the website. I would have to talk to the mechmate guys because I have no idea what the life of the pinion is in a rack and pinion machine
