just for the sake of completeness and for future reference... I made some more tests and it seems that I really need 0.01 tolerance or better to get satisfactory results. Surely configuring madcam...
thanks for your continued feedback.
my original post originated from the fact that with basically no config I was able to obtain more precise pieces with meshcam than I could with madcam. Which...
I finally got it working (almost :) ). Honestly I don't know what was the problem. I reset my mach3 and recalibrated the motors and I updated the options as suggested by Dan. I also lowered the...
Thank you Mauri, I can't post the model publicly but I will be sending it privately after today's last test.
maybe I've got an idea about what is happening... Most of my mills have a bigger shaft than the actual end mill size. meshcam has automatic collision detection, madcam does not. Meaning that in some...
I made a very stupid error in the stock setup today and thrown away one day of work. Tomorrow I'll try again and see if the new configuration solved my issue.
very interesting. hopefully that...
I believe I started from 0.02 in the "edge to surface" and tried 0.05 later. Anyway I'll give it a shot, just to be sure. Absolute tolerance from 0.01 to to 0.002 is a big jump... let's see what...
This is my config

thanks for taking the time to check this.
I only have 3.175 end mills, "FLAT_END_3" is just a label I use for brevity. I have absolutely no idea why madcam code ends up with a -0.3mm product.

I did one last test. I reset my whole Mach3 config and started over from scratch (just to be sure it's not a configuration error). I manually edited some gcode and cut a small box out of wood....
oh okay, sorry.
It's a very small file, I'm pasting it here
//MadCAM_POST_2003-12-10
*VERSION*
1.0_031210
*FILE_NAME*
Mach3_Gcode
I probably did something wrong... but isn't it attached to the previous post?
I attached the two post processings. cube-mesh is from meshcam. cube.txt is from madcam with mach3 post-processor.
Meshcam creates a lot of "noise", but if you look at the end of the file you can...
I did a quick test with a 20x20x20mm cube, roughing with stock to leave = 0 and same tolerance. Same end mill configuration on madcam and another CAM.
Can it be a problem with the header? Madcam...
thank you for helping me on this.
yes, the values are as suggested in the help file. everything's set in mm.
I use a digital caliper to measure the finished part.
This is driving me crazy, I...
I tried again with lower definition and tolerance, unfortunately I got the same result.

Thanks for your reply Dan. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. I can't publicly publish the model, but it's easily replicable with any relatively small model.

I'm sure I'm doing something incredibly stupid, I'm new to this world, I recently got my first hobbyist-CNC (I'm doing small commission works for modelers mainly) and I'm evaluating madcam and...
got my first Chinese CNC and I must say that I underestimated the time/dedication needed to have these machines working they way you wanted. I'm mainly a hobbyst but do very small commission works....
