Sounds like the chuck confirmation prox. Some machines have open, closed, and partial stroke to signal that a part is in the jaws. Check them at the I/O page to eliminate wiring or board problems.

Sounds like there is uneven wear on the screw.That is normal, as most cutting is done in one area, and the directional noise may be that one side of the groove in the screw is more worn.
Fadal control is not like most CNC controlers as most of the data is on an Eprom. Most user settings like Back lash are entered by hand.

You maybe able to disable the scales, check the Keep relays listing.
